FWRD Welcomes New Executive Director & Disaster Recovery Officer

January 3, 2025

FWRD Transylvania is pleased to announce the hiring of two key leaders who will guide long-term recovery efforts and advance community resilience following Hurricane Helene.

On January 5, 2026, Joyce Endaya will step into the role of Executive Director, providing strategic, operational, and financial leadership for the growing organization. Mick Galloway will join as Disaster Recovery Officer on March 3, 2026, overseeing disaster case management, unmet needs coordination, and collaboration among partner organizations.

FWRD works alongside local, state, and federal partners to coordinate disaster case management, identify and meet unmet needs, strengthen organizational capacity, and build a more resilient Transylvania County. With Pisgah Health Foundation serving as fiscal sponsor, these positions are made possible through funding from Dogwood Health Trust.

Endaya brings extensive experience in disaster response, case management coordination, and community resilience. Most recently, she served as Operations Manager for the Swannanoa Resilience Hub, where she oversaw grants, cross-agency case management teams, community outreach, and business engagement in preparedness and recovery. Her background also includes leadership roles at Lutheran Services Carolinas, Feeding Tampa Bay, and the Food Justice Planning Initiative, along with founding Finding HumanKind. Endaya holds a Juris Doctor and MBA from Stetson College of Law and a B.A. in Business Administration from the University of Florida.

As Executive Director, Endaya will lead staff and programs, strengthen partnerships with public agencies, nonprofits, and faith communities, and guide long-term recovery and preparedness planning following Hurricane Helene.

Galloway joins FWRD following a distinguished 30-year career with Transylvania County Schools, including as principal of Brevard High School. He is known for building strong cultures, coordinating complex logistics, and engaging diverse community stakeholders. His deep roots and trusted relationships across Transylvania County will be invaluable to ongoing recovery.

As Disaster Recovery Officer, Galloway will support residents impacted by Hurricane Helene through coordinated disaster case management, partner navigation, recovery planning, and collaboration with FEMA, North Carolina Emergency Management, nonprofit organizations, and volunteer groups.

“We are thrilled to welcome Joyce and Mick—two proven, values-driven leaders—to guide FWRD’s next chapter,” said Sarah Hankey, Board Chair of FWRD Transylvania. “Joyce brings regional disaster recovery expertise and collaborative leadership rooted in equity and dignity. Mick offers decades of trusted service in our community, deep operational experience, and a compassion-centered approach to supporting families. Together, they will strengthen our recovery efforts and help build the foundation for a more resilient Transylvania County.”
