In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, Sharing House emerged as a lifeline for hundreds of families navigating displacement, food insecurity, and the high cost of rebuilding. Their swift, compassionate response provided stability, dignity, and hope to those hit hardest by the storm.

💸 Meeting Urgent Needs Head-On

Since the disaster, Sharing House has served 484 households, reaching 1,282 individuals across Transylvania County. Their financial relief efforts have been both deep and wide:

  • 💵 $552,000 in restricted Hurricane Relief Funds distributed as of Sept. 1
  • 🏠 $250,130 toward housing stability (rent, mortgages, repairs, and deposits)
  • 🔌 $143,498 to cover electric and heating bills during the critical winter months
  • 🚗 $55,782 through the Wheels to Work program:
    • 8 vehicles replaced
    • 15 vehicles repaired

🥫 Food and Emotional Support

  • 🛒 Distributed emergency food supplies to 141 households (398 people) who lost perishable goods in the widespread power outages
  • 🧠 Supported trauma recovery through $10,000 in collaborative work with SparkPoint, helping both adults and youth process the emotional toll of Helene
  • 🦃 Partnered with Rise & Shine to deliver Thanksgiving holiday boxes to 338 households, including shelf-stable foods and fresh produce

🏚️ Rebuilding and Repairing

Sharing House also partnered with Habitat for Humanity to support mold remediation and other essential repairs in flooded homes. They anticipate distributing another $200,000 to support families still navigating recovery in 2025.
